Commissioner- Port of Houston Authority

and Pilot Commissioner

2000-2006

In June of 2000 I was humbled and honored to be asked (by County Judge Robert Eckels and County Commissioner Jerry Eversole) to serve as a Port of Houston Authority Commissioner representing the citizens of Harris County. I was appointed to that position by all four of the Harris County Commissioners and Harris County Judge Eckels. I was sworn in as Commissioner of both the Port of Houston Authority and as a Pilot Commissioner by the Judge.

I was the third woman to serve as a Port Commissioner since the inception of the Port and Harbor Board in 1909.

I will always be proud of the nearly six years of service to my fellow Harris county citizens.

The following are a few pictures of the highlights of those years!

I was privileged to have served with these fine gentlemen :

Port Commissioners: Jimmy Burke, Jim Fonteno Jr. and Steve Phelps.

Addressing the entire commission and audience at a monthly commissioners meeting.

On my first ship (an oil tanker that was full!) going out of the Houston Ship Channel.

Chairman Jim Edmonds at a Press conference announcing Bayport.

Awards for the Port Security and Fire Dept. from Galena Park Rotary

BAYPORT!!!!!!!!!!!  The first turn of DIRT!

My fellow Commissioners(l-r):

Steve Phelps, Janice Longoria, Jim Fonteno Jr., Chairman Jim Edmonds, me,

Jimmy Burke and Kase Lawal

(what an awesome group of dedicated individuals)

years, each day of which I will ALWAYS be proud

to have served and humbled that I was asked.

(And...as a Retired PHA Commissioner-

I have served on the TUTS Board for 10+ years.

I was honored to serve as Chairman of the Board and during my term we moved the TUTS company from being "homeless gypsies" into our new and permanent home in the Hobby Center for Performing Arts. That position included negotiating contracts and  supervising final build outs as well as our opening Gala. During those years TUTS also launched the Tommy Tunes High School awards.
